Hepatitis
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can lead to serious health problems and even death. The most common cause of hepatitis is from ingesting contaminated food or water, but it can also be transmitted through sexual contact and blood.
Hepatitis A is a viral infection that causes inflammation of the liver. It is spread in feces or vomit, and it is highly contagious. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. The virus will remain in your body for up to six months after recovery.
Hepatitis B is spread through sexual contact or by sharing needles with someone who has the virus. Symptoms may not appear until years later when they become more severe; they include jaundice (yellowing of skin), fatigue and loss of appetite.
Hepatitis C is rarer than other types of hepatitis and can only be passed on through blood-to-blood contact or through sharing needles or syringes with someone who has contracted the disease from a tattoo artist who used infected equipment.
Diagnosis of hepatitis
Hepatitis is diagnosed by taking a blood sample from the patient. The blood sample will be tested for antibodies and viral particles. If a patient has hepatitis, the doctor can confirm that by doing more tests on the blood sample, including looking for markers in the patient’s liver tissue.
Treatment of hepatitis
The treatment of hepatitis includes medication, lifestyle changes, and medical procedures. Sometimes it may be difficult to tell what kind of medication you need for your particular condition. This is where a doctor can help you understand the proper use of medications for your specific situation.
