Duodenal stenosis
Duodenal stenosis is a narrowing of the duodenum, a part of the small intestine. The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine and receives food from your stomach. The narrowing may cause symptoms such as pain, bloating and heartburn.
Duodenal stenosis can be caused by an abnormality of the duodenal muscles, in which case it is called anisocoria. It can also be caused by an abnormality of the duodenal gland.
Diagnosis of duodenal stenosis
Duodenal stenosis is diagnosed by an endoscopy or CT scan of the upper digestive tract. The doctor will look for a lack of movement in the valve that separates the stomach from the small intestine, causing it to become narrowed.
Treatment of duodenal stenosis
Treatment for duodenal stenosis includes:
– Endoscopic dilatation
– A stent (a small tube, made of metal or plastic) may be inserted through the mouth into your stomach to widen your esophagus and stomach. This procedure allows food to pass normally from your stomach into your small intestine. Your doctor may also give you a medicine to help prevent acid reflux.
– Other treatments include medications and surgery.
Costs for the treatment of duodenal stenosis in Germany
Cost of Duodenal stenosis treatment in Germany depends on the severity of your condition, the type of surgery you are undergoing.
