Varicocele
Varicocele is a noninfectious, noninflammatory and benign enlargement of the veins draining the testicles. It occurs primarily in adult men and is more commonly seen in obese, older men. Varicocele develops as a result of inguinal varices, which are venous channels that develop along with varicose veins (pitted or irregularly shaped).
Diagnosis of varicocele
A physical exam and blood tests are used to screen for varicoceles. Ultrasound is the most common way to diagnose a varicocele in men. If a varicocele is found on ultrasound, then it may also be diagnosed by measuring its size using standard instruments.
Treatment of varicocele
Varicocele surgery is performed to correct the varicocele. It’s a chronic condition where the near-limitless blood flow to the testicle causes damage and pain. The most common treatment is the creation of an artificial vein in the scrotum that drains back into the groin and out of sight. This relieves pressure on veins in the spermatic cord and reduces/removes pain for varicocele sufferers
