Testimonials

Ureteral polyp

Ureteral polyp is a condition in which a tumor grows on the lining of the ureter, a tube that carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder. A ureteral polyp is not cancerous but can cause problems such as persistent pain or hematuria (bloody urine).

Diagnosis of ureteral polyp

The presence of a ureteral polyp can be diagnosed through digital rectal examination and abdominal ultrasonography. The detection of an intratubular mass within the ureter which has an appearance similar to that of a stone on ultrasonography is an indication of the presence of a ureteral stone. The presence of this mass without any other signs would suggest that the ureter is affected with cancerous tissue. A urine sample may be obtained from the patient and tested for infection, chlamydia, radiology, haematuria (blood in urine) and protein level as well as stones.

Treatment of ureteral polyp

Treatment of Ureteral polyp with conservative management or surgery is based on the type, size and location of the ureteral polyp. It is almost always performed under general anesthetic by a surgeon in a hospital using fluoroscopic guidance.
