Testimonials

Ureteral cancer

Ureteral cancer is a rare type of cancer that develops in the ureters the passageways that carry urine from each kidney to the bladder. Ureteral tumors can include polyps, which are benign (non-cancerous) growths, as well as carcinomas and sarcomas. Most ureteral cancers are found in the lower part of one or both ureters, but they can also occur elsewhere in these organs.

Diagnosis of ureteral cancer

Ureteral cancer is usually diagnosed and staged using imaging, lab tests and medical history. Imaging may include x-rays and ultrasounds of the abdomen or CT scans.

Treatment of ureteral cancer

The treatment of ureteral cancer depends on the stage of the disease. For patients in whom the tumor has been completely removed by surgery, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy are sometimes used to destroy any remaining cancer cells that may have been left behind. In some cases, other treatments may be recommended as well.
