Retina degeneration
Retina degeneration is a condition in which the retina, which is the layer of cells that lines the back of the eye and transmits light to your brain, loses its ability to function.
The most common cause of retinal degeneration is age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of vision loss among people over 60 years old, and it progresses slowly over time. The disease usually starts with small areas of damage visible in the center of your vision. Over time, these damaged areas grow larger and become more visible, until they cover large parts of your field of view. You may also experience blurred or distorted vision, tunnel vision or flashing lights that may make you feel like you’re going blind. If you have an advanced case of AMD, you may need treatment to slow down or stop this progression or prevent further damage from occurring.
Diagnosis of retina degeneration
Retina degeneration is diagnosed with a combination of tests. Your doctor will check to see if you have symptoms of retinal disease, such as blurry vision or blind spots. They will also perform a visual field test and eye examination. If the results of these tests are abnormal, your doctor may order additional tests to help determine the cause of your symptoms.
Treatment of retina degeneration
Laser therapy is the most effective treatment for retinal degeneration, and it can be performed in a doctor’s office or outpatient clinic.
Costs for the treatment of retina degeneration in Germany
The cost of Retina degeneration treatment in Germany varies depending on the type of treatment you choose.
If you want to receive treatment by laser surgery, then your total cost will be around €5.400.
