Testimonials

Pituitary adenoma

A pituitary adenoma is a benign tumor that can occur in the pituitary gland. It is the most common type of brain tumor in adults, but it is rare in children.
The pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain, just below the optic nerves. The gland produces several hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). While this hormone production occurs in other parts of the body, these two hormones are produced specifically by the pituitary gland.

Diagnosis of pituitary adenoma

Pituitary adenoma is diagnosed by a doctor who has seen you for other symptoms, such as headaches or changes in vision. In order to confirm that the adenoma is causing your symptoms, the doctor will do an MRI scan on your head. The doctor will also discuss your symptoms with you and perform other tests, including blood tests and ultrasounds.

Treatment of pituitary adenoma

The most common treatment is a transsphenoidal surgery, which is performed by making an incision in the back of the nose, down to the base of the skull and then removing the tumor surgically. The surgeon will then close any wounds with stitches.
Another option is a craniotomy, which involves making an incision around the base of the skull and removing the tumor surgically. If a craniotomy isn’t possible, radiation therapy may be used in conjunction with other therapies to help alleviate symptoms.
