Hip dysplasia
Hip dysplasia is a developmental problem of the hip joint. In babies, the ball of the thighbone (femoral head) does not fit well into the hip socket (acetabulum). The condition may be present at birth or it may develop later in life.
Diagnosis of hip dysplasia
It usually is diagnosed when a young child has difficulty walking because of hip pain and develops later physical problems that worsen as an adult. Hip dysplasia is present at birth and can cause severe disability later in life.
Treatment of hip dysplasia
The most common non-surgical treatment of hip dysplasia is the use of a brace, which may be required for several months and may be recommended even after surgery to aid in healing and proper alignment of the joint. This treatment can be used to help support a child’s hip until surgery is granted.
