Testimonials

Glioblastoma (brain tumor)

Glioblastoma is the most common primary malignant brain tumor. It’s characterized by the presence of glioma cells in the central nervous system (CNS). It’s also known as an astrocytoma, a type of CNS tumor that originates from astrocytes. Astrocytomas are tumors that originate from astrocytes, or star-shaped cells in the brain.
Glioblastomas can occur at any age but mostly affect people over 60 years old.
The most common form of glioblastoma is called an oligodendroglioma, or OGG, which accounts for about 80% of all glioblastomas diagnosed worldwide. The other 20% can be divided into two subtypes: low grade (LG) and high grade (HG). LG tumors are slightly less common than HG tumors and tend to grow more slowly; HG tumors tend to grow faster than LG tumors.

Diagnosis of glioblastoma (brain tumor)

Glioblastoma is typically diagnosed by a combination of imaging tests and biopsy. Imaging tests can be used to confirm the diagnosis, and may include MRI or CT scans.
In addition to imaging tests, a biopsy is often performed to determine whether the tumor is malignant or benign. Biopsy involves removing a small piece of tissue from the tumor.

Treatment of glioblastoma (brain tumor)

The most common treatment for glioblastoma is surgery. Surgery removes as much of the tumor as possible and allows radiation therapy to be delivered directly to affected areas of the brain. Radiation therapy can also be used after surgery to destroy any remaining tumor cells.
If it’s determined that surgery won’t be an option because of other health conditions, radiation may be tried as well as chemotherapy treatments.
In addition to surgery and radiation therapy, some researchers are investigating immunotherapy drugs.

Costs for the treatment of glioblastoma (brain tumor) in Germany

The cost of Glioblastoma treatment in Germany depends on a number of factors.
For example, if you need surgery for your Glioblastoma tumor, the average cost is between 30.000 and €40.000. On the other hand, if you’re treated with radiation therapy instead of surgery, it can cost anywhere from €25.000 to €30.000.
