Testimonials

Eye cancer

Eye cancer is a set of diseases that involve abnormal growths in the eye. Eye cancer may occur in both the front and back of the eyeball, but it’s usually located in the back of the eyeball.
The types of eye cancers include: choroidal melanoma, retinoblastoma, uveal mass (a tumor found in the retina), and ocular melanoma.
You may notice an increase in swelling and redness of the eye. This can be caused by inflammation that forms when tumors grow in your eye. You may have pain or discomfort when looking up or down, especially if there is pressure on the optic nerve (which connects eyes to brain).

Diagnosis of eye cancer

Eye cancer is diagnosed by examining the eye for any abnormal growths or lumps. Patients will also be asked to fill out a questionnaire about their symptoms and medical history, including anything that might have caused similar symptoms before. If an abnormality is suspected, doctors may then perform an exam using special equipment such as an ultrasound or MRI.

Treatment of eye cancer

The treatment of eye cancer includes surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
Surgery: Surgery is the most common treatment for eye cancer. At times, surgeons will remove the eye completely (total ocular removal). If your eye has cancerous cells that have invaded the retina or optic nerve, your surgeon may remove the entire eye and replace it with an artificial one that is designed to function like a real eye.
Radiation Therapy: Radiation therapy involves using high-energy rays to kill cancer cells. The goal of radiation treatment is to destroy all cancer cells so they cannot grow back.
Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy drugs are used in combination with other treatments such as surgery or radiation therapy to kill any remaining cancer cells while minimizing side effects caused by those treatments themselves.
