Elbow arthritis
Elbow arthritis is a disease that causes the elbow joint to become painful and stiff. The joint is made up of three bones: the humerus (upper arm bone), radius (one of two long forearm bones on either side of the thumb) and ulna (one of two long forearm bones on either side of the little finger). Cartilage covers all these bones, acting as a shock absorber.
Diagnosis of elbow arthritis
The doctor makes a diagnosis of elbow arthritis based on the patient’s medical history and a physical examination, in which he observes the patient’s range of motion and stability of the joint. He also can order imaging tests such as X-rays or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Treatment of elbow arthritis
The treatment for elbow arthritis depends on the severity of your condition. If symptoms are mild, we may recommend physical therapy. If your elbow pain is more severe, then you may require surgery to relieve pain and restore damaged cartilage in the joint.
