Brain astrocytoma

Brain astrocytoma is a tumor that forms in the brain. It’s usually benign, meaning it doesn’t spread or cause any symptoms. But sometimes, they can be malignant. If they are malignant, they can grow quickly and cause serious problems if not treated.

Diagnosis of brain astrocytoma

Brain astrocytoma is diagnosed by a CT scan. The diagnosis is made by looking for tumors in the brain. The CT scan can be used to find the location of the tumor and its exact dimensions, allowing doctors to determine whether or not they need surgery.

Treatment of brain astrocytoma

The first step in treating brain astrocytoma is to remove as much of the tumor as possible using surgery. A biopsy can be used to determine the stage of your brain cancer and to help determine which treatment approach is most appropriate for you. In general, surgery is recommended for patients with low-grade malignancies or those whose tumors are located near vital structures such as the optic nerve and brainstem.

During surgery, surgeons will remove any tissue that may be causing symptoms or blocking blood flow to the part of your body affected by brain astrocytoma. They may also remove a piece of bone from either side of your skull in order to create a space for treatment radiation therapy to be performed in. In some cases, radiation therapy may be given before surgery to shrink or destroy any remaining tumor tissue prior to removal by surgery.

After surgery, you will usually receive chemotherapy treatment for up to three months in order to kill any remaining cancer cells that survived surgery. The type and amount of chemo you receive depends on your type and stage of cancer, how far it has spread, and whether there are other factors at play such as age when you were diagnosed.

Costs for the treatment of brain astrocytoma in Germany

The cost of brain astrocytoma treatment in Germany can vary widely depending on the type of tumor and the patient’s health. If a patient has a low-risk brain tumor, their treatment will be cheaper than if they have high-risk brain tumors.
The average cost is between €31.000 and €60.000.
