Testimonials

Acoustic neuroma

Acoustic neuroma is a type of tumor that affects the part of the ear that responds to sound. It’s not a common cancer, but it can occur in any age group and has no warning signs.
In most cases, acoustic neuroma begins as a small growth on the nerve in the ear. The tumor may grow slowly or quickly over time. Acoustic neuroma may be associated with hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in your ears), balance problems, vertigo (a spinning sensation), or dizziness.

Diagnosis of acoustic neuroma

Acoustic neuromas are typically diagnosed by an otolaryngologist (an ear, nose and throat specialist). For example, the patient may have had an MRI of their head, which revealed the tumor. The otolaryngologist can then use other tests to further confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment of acoustic neuroma

There are two main treatments for acoustic neuroma: surgery and radiation therapy.
Surgery is the most common treatment for acoustic neuroma. This involves removing as much of the tumor as possible and treating any remaining tissue with radiation therapy.
Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation beams to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation therapy works best when it’s given after surgery because it shrinks tumors while they are still small enough to be treated by surgery.

Costs for the treatment of acoustic neuroma in Germany

The cost of Acoustic neuroma treatment in Germany depends on a variety of factors, including the type of treatment you need. The average price for an operation to remove the tumor is around €39.000.
